Born in Popayan, Colombia, Professor Juan Alberto Aragón Bateman took both his undergraduate and graduate courses at The Faculty of Psychology of the University of Warsaw, Poland. Under the supervision of Professor Janusz Reykowski, he obtained the degree on Experimental Clinical Psychology.

Upon his arrival in 1970, Professor Aragón became a full time Professor of Psychology at Universidad Nacional de Colombia. He lectured in the areas of Experimental Clinical Psychology, Evolutionary Psychology and Personality Psychology. Professor Aragon was appointed Dean of the department of Psychology between 1971 and 1972. He then became an Associate Professor of the Alumni School at Universidad Pedagógica Nacional. There, he pioneered research in the fields of Psychology of Learning and Research Methodology. Professor Aragón was then appointed chairman of the Centre for Research at Universidad Pedagógica Nacional while undertaking responsibilities as a professor of Philosophy of Science, Psychology of Language and Thought, and Conduct Modification Techniques both at Universidad Pedagógica Nacional and Universidad de Los Andes.

In 1974 Professor Aragón was appointed deputy principal of the ‘Instituto Colombiano de Pedagogia’ (ICOLPE) while heading the program of Investigation and Curricular Restructuring at PNUD-UNESCO-COLOMBIA “COL-32”. He articulated and directed The MA in Investigation and Curriculum Evaluation at Universidad Pedagógica Nacional.

Professor Aragon has also played key academic roles overseas. He lectured on Technology for Higher Education at Universidad Nacional de El Salvador. Also, he was an invited researcher at the Department of Evaluation at Universidad Abierta de Venezuela. At Organization of American States (OAS) he took part as an expert on the Multinational Project for the Development of Training Systems. More recently, Professor Aragon was a co-founder and president of ‘La Asociacion Colombiana de Instituciones Universitarias Privadas’ (ACIUP). Also, he represented ACIUP at The International Association of University Presidents (IAUP).

The Fundación Universitaria Konrad Lorenz was founded, obtained its legal status, and opened the Psychology undergraduate program in 1981, as a result of a solid project led by Professor Aragon. He has helped Fundación Universitaria Konrad Lorenz forged its own path in higher education in two different cycles: from its beginnings until 1999, and then from 2003 onwards. He has been the President of this higher institution Council since 1996. Professor Aragon’s strategic educational insight is deemed as instrumental within the educational context in Colombia.
